The Samburu National Reserve is one of the best known game
viewing areas in Kenya. Its 165 sq km lie along the north bank
of the wide Uaso Nyiro River. While the Buffalo Springs Reserve
of 131 sq km lie on the south bank. The part of Samburu near
the river, and most of Buffalo Springs is fairly open thorn bush
extremely dry much of the year then thick with grass after the
rains. The big attraction for game is the river, lined with trees
including the picturesque doum palms
